Top marketing trends in 2020

2019 was quite the year for marketing – the continued implementation and exploration of AI, voice and visual search, chatbots, interactive content and live streaming video continued to increase in importance. Brands interacting with their consumers in a more personal way helped blur the lines between brand and consumer and improve overall brand loyalty.

Marketing trends to stay on top of in 2020.

  1. Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence was by far in a way one of the biggest breakthroughs for businesses in 2019 and expect to see it continue to advance in 2020. AI has the ability to analyze consumer search patterns and behavior and use this data across platforms to help brands reach the right audience in the right stage of the purchasing funnel. We’ve seen this tech in areas such as content creation, email personalization, e-commerce and product recommendations. Here are some more reasons to consider adopting AI as provided by habr.com

  1. Video Marketing

Are you sick and tired of hearing how important video marketing is to your campaign? Too bad! Video marketing will continue to grow exponentially in 2020. Incorporating video on your website makes it 50x, that’s right FIFTY TIMES more likely to drive traffic to your website. Video content is more compelling than text, so Google pushes pages that include videos higher in search results.  If that’s not enough to at least make you consider adding video to your 2020 planning, here’s some stats to push you over the fence:

  • 58% of consumers trust a brand with videos more than a brand without, up from 52% in 2018 (Animoto)
  • Videos are shared on social media 1200% more than images and text combined (Social Media Today)
  • 78% of people watch online videos every week, and 55% view online videos every day. (HubSpot)
  • 64% of consumers are more likely to buy a product after watching a video about it (Social Media Today)

Video isn’t going anywhere. That is, until they get holograms to project from your phone.. but I digress.

  1. Visual Search

For those unfamiliar, visual search uses images, photographs or screenshots as the prompting stimuli in a search query. Simply snap a quick photo of a vase you like and the search engine can prompt a query based on the context of the image. Still confused? Spend a little time on Pinterest and you’ll understand the wormhole that an image search can lead you into. Simply snap a photo a new pair of boots you like and let AI do the rest. Visual search empowers retailers to provide a seamless user experience to their consumers by suggesting thematically similar products to the image the user provides. If you are a retailer and you’re not buying in on visual search, you could be missing a huge opportunity. According to Pinterest, 55% of consumers say visual search is instrumental in developing their style and taste. And if you’re trying to reach the elusive millennial, 62% of millennials want visual search over any other new technology (Business Wire). We’re not saying that text search is going away, but with the onslaught of visual search and voice search (can’t forget about you Alexa), the way people are searching is changing at an incredible rate.

These are just a few of the big trends you need to not just watch out for, but stay on top of when planning for 2020. Things are changing at a dramatic rate and if you’re going to keep up, you really need to get ahead.
